Brand just doesn't matter - they all make junk and all make good models
I suggest Dell only because you can configure online all the exact components which should be:
1. any dual core CPU
2. any dedicated graphics such as ATI 3650 or NVidia 8600
3. any 7200 rpm hard drive
4. 4 gig of ram
It is unclear if those simple specs can be achieved for thousand dollars but you can poke around in the ';Dell Coupons'; link at notebookreview.com
Dell Studio 15 or 17 might be a possibility if you can configure it as above. Sometimes you have to talk to a Dell rep to get the right config and also they can deal on the price a bit...
I need help choosing a new laptop does anyone have some good advice in the thousand dollar range?
Try ebay... theres thousands on sale on ebay.. thats the wonder of ebay...
