First off I think I'm pretty good and i really need some touching up (haven't danced in 4 years) but i also need help with training.
and do you think its gonna be weird to be the one plus size girl on a team of size 6 ? cause my school is very weight critical when it comes to cheer and dance; they where the same uniform but dance is black and cheer is red.Dance team tryouts?need help and some advice on the subject?
You sound like you have the right attitude here's some tips for training
-run about a half hour or more a day. (i know this doesn't have much to do with technique but it helps for endurance)
-stretch. stretching is very important for many reasons. it helps keep you in shape and helps you get your body in places it hasn't gone before
-crunches and other ab building exercises. these will help you strenghthen your core which is key to being a good dancer.
- practice turns. i'm pretty sure your try-out dance will have a turn. for information on how to do a proper turn go on youtube and search';just for kix'; and you will be able to find an instructional video.
I'm putting self through training right now because I am auditioning for a pre-senior jazz company at my school as well as try-out for my high school dance team. I am captain for my middle school dance team and I want to be my very best so I will make it in high school
You might be very sore durning try-outs because you havn't danced in four year so start strecting now so your muscles can handle the try-outs later on
as for your weight don't worry about it I know many talented dancers that are a little over weight. I know you said your school is weight critical but your dancing ability will be the true deciding factor on weather or not you make the team.....not your appearence
good luck =)
- also practice sharp arm movements. these are very important for a dance team
- practice leaps and straddle jumps too

i would start eating healthier and working on your stamina (not just by running but by doing cardio almost everyday)
stretch and do crunches, push-ups ect. everyday (work alot on your legs)
make sure you have your splits or are very close (hold each split for 2 minutes each everyday)
and start taking dance classes again, even if it is only one class. i would jazz, kick or drill-team prep (if your dance team is a drill team), and ballet!
doing get discouraged because of your weight one of the best 3 dancers at my studio could definately shed some pounds.
but i think taking classes again would be best
I think its fine. my school has dancers and cheerleaders ranging from about a size 0 to plus sizes. everyone wears the same uniform, but u can normally order it in different sizes. if your good, i think you'll make it no matter what your size is. definatly check out some dance studios for touch ups if you haven't danced in a while. take a few classes, ballet jazz and hip hop are normally good for dance team basis. good luck!
don't let ur size matter b who u are and dance your heart out......don't eat alot of sweets it really slows your body down eat healthy stretch and practice i was on my high school dance team last year and we all wore matching outfits although they didn't all look so hot on me (i my self was the one plus size girl on my team) every one was a size 4 and i was a size 15 so don't hold back and give it your all
i would not wear the same unform and u sound good too so try your best and i hope u get in
