I have to go to the dentist and I'm really scared. I didn't have a fear or anything like that, but I think I do NOW. I went in for a check up and now I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled. I have NEVER had anything on this order so I need some serious advice.
I'm not afraid of shots until it comes to my mouth is that normal? I don't really like ppl getting close to me which as a dentist you probably will so how can this help me? What can I do. I dont want to close my eyes during treatment because that scares me even more. I need serious help!!!
Can you give me any tips on relaxing and anything else that will help. I dont' want any injections whatsoever which is probably not the best thing for me. And he also said that he was going to give me something to hold my mouth open what can I do? Will that hurt I cry reallt easy although, you wouldn't be able to tell.
Does it bother them when ppl like me wont relax enough to show how I really feel? And communicate with them? Can you help me ppl. Especially advice from someone in the dental field.?
Call the office and tell them you're scared. In my office, we prescribe valium to people who are freaking out about having work done. They take it one hour before, and have to have someone else drive them, which you probably would have to if you are having wisdom teeth out and iv sedation. I am not sure if they will let you have both valium and iv sedation. Probably not. But I can assure you that if you get iv sedation, you will feel nothing, in fact you will not even know what happened from the moment they knock you out until you wake back up. You will literally not even know time passed. So don't worry about it hurting cause you'll be gone. If you take valium, you will be awake during the procedure, but relaxed. Just not as relaxed as with iv sedation. But with iv sedation, you will have to deal with the initial shot. In that case just remind yourself that it will be a piece of cake like I described here. Can you help me ppl. Especially advice from someone in the dental field.?
A couple things you can do. First you have to inform the dentist that you are so anxious, it's important for them to know. Second ask if they have anything you can take to relax you, sometimes they have Valium to calm you. Third some dentists can sedate you during the procedure (put you to sleep), it is a IV drip that has meds that put you into a awake sleep. The feeling is hard to explain but you'll be awake but kinda high (for lack of better words). Do a Google search about dental anesthetics, you should find alot.
First, you should now right off - I am not a dentist. However, fear of dentists is not uncommon at all. Most people don't like going to the dentist - for sure! One good thing is that denistry has improved significantly in the past decade. It is almost virtually pain free.
If you don't want to use needles - tell your dentist - many have an option to use gas. Given that you are having your wisdom teeth out, he should be able to provide you with some medication to relax you significantly prior to starting the appointment. Consult with him about this.
I think it is very important to talk to your dentist. Remember, you are in control. It is your mouth - and you need to speak out - let him know what you need to help you get through this.
I, like many others, had my wisdom teeth out. This procedure will be relatively painless. However, after the pain medication wears off and some swelling in the mouth occurs, it is a bit painful for a day or two. The dentist can give you some pain medication for this. Follow the post recommendations of the dentist regarding diet, ice packs, and medication and you will be just fine!
to get your wisdom teeth pulled, get IV conscious sedation. most dentists or oral surgeons who pull wisdom teeth offer this or can refer you to one who does. yes, it is normal to not mind shots except for your mouth. in the future, here are two tips, have them put on extra numbing agent before the shot and tell the dentist to go extremely slow with the shot. that will lessen any pain. no, the bite block will not hurt you. it will help you to be able to relax your jaw. yes, dentists prefer it if you are relaxed. it makes their work much easier. they are used to patients being anxious, though. of course, it is best to tell them. they might be able to help.
for your wisdom teeth, i really recommend you go to a biologic dentist so you don't get a cavitation.
